We hope the State and Central Government understand the need of hour that is food labelling is mandatory- Dr. K. KRISHNAN

THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MUST BRING LEGAL INITIATIVE TO PROTECT CHILDREN’S RIGHTS THROUGH RIGHTS-BASED FOOD LABELING WHICH SHALL BE MANDATORY FOR THE BEST OF NEXT-GENERATION.

The Peoples’ Vigilance Committee on Human Rights (PVCHR), Foundation for Sustainable Development (FSD-INDIA) and Savitri Bai Phule Mahila Panchayat alongwith CACL, ATBDA Manch together are organizing this most important “multiple stakeholders’ consultation on children’s nutrition rights through package food labelling” at Varanai on October 5, 2021.

Good nutrition paves the way for a pleasant and beautiful life. Objective of the nutritional care includes not-only the ingredients but also the labelling, designing, marketing, quality and fair-minded packaging. Leading doctors and health experts have demanded stringent changes in packaged food labelling of unhealthy foods.  Leading healthcare professionals have demanded to incorporate warning labels on the front of the pack to ensure that people don’t overindulge in foods that may lead to several health disorders and particularly in the nutrition part for the children’s life and their future.

“Right to health is a fundamental right of every human being and Children’s health is Nation’s wealth.  Therefore, in the Indian context, states are required to adopt regulatory measures such as front-of-package warning labelling on foods and beverages containing excessive amount of critical nutrients such as sugar to tackle the rising burden of obesity and so on”

People should start understanding the goods and its warning labels on packing. Any food items that may categorized like sugary drinks, energy drinks, canned foods, microwave popcorn, products with artificial food coloring and understanding and remembering warning label information and related information for protecting children and youth population. In the name of nutritional food such as Most Pizzas, Pastries, Cookies and Cakes, French fries and potato chips, Sugary drinks, Fruit juices, Nuts and chocolates and so on are marketed based on the profit but most of them not for protecting children’s life.

Hence, we hope the State and Central Government understand the need of hour that is food labelling is mandatory for the protecting the present and future generation from all types of complication’s, diseases and further this should not children’s future. We hope every will accept and support for saving the next generation.

With Regards
