PIPAL: People’s Initiative for Participatory Action for food Labelling

15 अगस्त 2022, अल्ट्रा-प्रोसेस्ड डिब्बाबंद खाद्य पदार्थों की खपत में आशातीत वृद्धि के साथ, भारत विज्ञान समर्थित फ्रंट ऑफ पैक लेबलिंग (एफओपीएल) को अपनाने के दिशा में अग्रसर है। प्रमुख उद्योग प्रतिनिधियों और खाद्य उत्पाद निर्माताओं का मानना है, कि वैश्विक बाजार में छोटे और मझोले औद्योगिक (एसएमई) इकाइयों द्वारा उत्पादित खाद्य पदार्थों की बढ़ती लोकप्रियता भारत के परंपरागत खाद्य पदार्थ, जो सेहतमंद भी है, के निर्यात में वृद्धि के लिए एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम साबित हो सकता है। निर्यात को बढ़ाने की दृष्टि से, इस अवसर को मजबूत और निर्यात क्षमता को सुविधाजनक बनाने के लिए, खाद्य उत्पादों के लिए चेतावनी लेबल आधारित एफओपीएल को अपनाना, भारत के लिए एक प्रभावी नीतिगत फैसला होगा। खाद्य उद्योग कल्याण संघ (FIWA) के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष डॉ. गिरीश गुप्ता ने मानवाधिकार जननिगरानी समिति को पत्र लिखकर कहा कि कहा कि भारतीय खाद्य पदार्थ को वैश्विक बाजार के समकक्ष बनाने के लिए विश्व स्तर पर सबसे प्रचलित एफओपीएल को अपनाने की आवश्यकता है.  उन्होंने आगे कहा "एफओपीएल (FOPL) देश में फूड प्रोसेसिंग इंडस्ट्री की काफी मदद करे

 The Commission took cognizance of an complaint dated 14.09.2021 received from Ms.Shruti Nagvanshi and Shirin Shabana Khan resident of Varanasi, UP alleging that Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) are the major cause of morbidity and mortality in India. The packaged food is high in salt, fat and sugar which poses major risk factors for Obesity and NCDs. The petitioners prayed for implementation of Nutrient Profile Model and Front of Packet Labelling (FOPL) regulation in India as it will help the food processing industry towards healthy food.
