A PTA Meeting Highlights the Urgency of Packaged Labeling and FSSAI Compliance"

On November 6th, 2023, an engagement meeting was convened at New Edge Jr High School, Kankhal, Haridwar, Uttarakhand, bringing together parents and teachers (PTA). The gathering focused on the critical subject of packaged labeling.

Dr. Lenin Raghuvanshi addressed the attendees, providing valuable insights on various aspects. He shed light on the recent National Family Health Survey (NFHS) data concerning child obesity and the pressing issue of the double burden of malnutrition. Additionally, Dr. Raghuvanshi discussed the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulations, specifically the "Safe Food and Healthy Diet for School Children" Regulation of 2019. He highlighted our ongoing campaign advocating for Front-of-Pack Labeling (FOPL).

During the meeting, there was a specific request made to the school to ensure compliance with the FSSAI regulations pertaining to the safety and standards of food, particularly as it relates to school children. It's worth noting that both the school administration and the parents present at the meeting agreed to this proposal.
This engagement meeting drew participation from 30 parents who were eager to discuss these important matters. The Managing Director of the school, Shri Deepak Tomar, also expressed his commitment to organizing similar engagement meetings in all four schools under his purview. This proactive stance demonstrates a dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of school children in the region.
