Dear Advocates for Health,

I am delighted to share with you the culmination of a significant milestone in our journey towards promoting cardiovascular health and protecting the well-being of children and mothers. Today, I received a letter from Ms.Pamela Sumner Coffey jee, Vice President of Global Operations at Tobacco-Free Kids Action Fund, confirming the closeout of our project, "Consolidating collective voices for strong FoPL regulation to protect child and maternal health."

First and foremost, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Tobacco-Free Kids Action Fund, particularly to Ms. Pamela Sumner Coffey jee and the entire team, for their unwavering support and guidance throughout the duration of this project. Your belief in our vision and your commitment to improving global health have been instrumental in driving our efforts forward.

Our project aimed to amplify voices advocating for robust Front-of-Pack Labeling (FoPL) regulations, a crucial step in safeguarding the health of vulnerable populations, especially children and mothers. With a grant amount of $62,030, generously provided by the Tobacco-Free Kids Action Fund, we embarked on this journey from October 01, 2022, to September 30, 2023. Through strategic advocacy and collaborative efforts, we endeavored to create a more health-conscious society and ensure access to accurate nutritional information for all.

The recognition extended to JanMitra Nyas for its contributions to the Resolve to Save Lives initiative is truly humbling. We are deeply honored to be acknowledged for our dedication and achievements in the realm of public health. This acknowledgment reinforces our commitment to continue striving towards creating positive and lasting change in our communities.

Moreover, the offer of continued technical assistance and support from Tobacco-Free Kids Action Fund is immensely appreciated. We are eager to explore the advocacy tools provided on your website and remain committed to leveraging every available resource to further our mission.

As we celebrate this milestone, I extend my heartfelt thanks to every member of JanMitra Nyas and our partners who have dedicated their time, effort, and expertise to make this project a success. Your unwavering commitment and passion for improving the health and well-being of others inspire us all.

Update on NHRC Case: FSSAI Ordered to Submit Additional Information on Packaged Food and NCDs

  Today, we saw on the NHRC website (Track Case number:  4227/90/0/2021 ) that on March 21, 2024, the honorable commission called for additional information from the Joint Director of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Science and Standards (S&S) Division. The proceeding of the order is as follows: Background of the Complaint The complainants, via a complaint dated September 14, 2021, alleged that Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) are the major cause of morbidity and mortality in India. They pointed out that packaged food high in salt, fat, and sugar poses significant risk factors for obesity and NCDs. Initial Commission Action Upon consideration of the matter on May 31, 2023, the Commission directed that the recommendations made by the scientific panel, as well as the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad, be sent to the Director, Regulatory Compliance Division, FSSAI, New Delhi.
