"Prominent Leaders Unite to Demand Clearer Food Labeling Regulations in India"

General Secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Brahmin Mahasabha, Pandit Rakesh Ranjan Tripathi, has enthusiastically joined our campaign to compose a letter addressed to the Prime Minister. He is actively engaged in mobilizing others to support our cause. Notably, his article has been prominently featured on the editorial page of the Hindi evening daily, Sanmarg.

In a similar vein, Lenin Raghuvanshi of PVCHR has also penned a letter to the Prime Minister of India. Both of these individuals received identical responses, which stated that the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) had officially notified the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling & Display) Amendment Regulations 2022. These regulations prescribe the pictorial display of the Indian Nutrition Rating (INR) or the Star System of Rating for Front of Pack Nutritional Labelling (FOPNL). Furthermore, the definition of HFSS (high in fat, sugar, and salt) was included in these regulations. These amendments were announced on September 13, 2022, with the aim of soliciting objections and suggestions from the public and stakeholders. The comments received on the draft regulations are currently under consideration by the FSSAI for the finalization of the amendment regulations.

Additionally, prominent figures, including the Founder President of the National Equal Party, Trustees of the Jan Jagruti Trust, and the National President of the Bhartiya Vypar Mandal, have also written to the Prime Minister's Office, emphasizing the necessity of warning labels on FOPL (Front of Pack Labels) for unregulated packet foods.

It is noteworthy that the Trustees of the Jan Jagruti Trust, Mr. Dhiendra Sisodia, is a renowned artist, and Sanoj Bharati is a member of the BJP SC wing in Uttar Pradesh.

The National Patrons of the Bhartiya Vypar Mandal include:

  1. Zafar Sareshwala: An Indian businessman, owner of Parsoli Corporation, and former chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University. He is a member of the strict Tablighi Jamaat branch of Islam and has gained considerable public attention for being a staunch supporter and close confidant of Narendra Modi, the current Prime Minister of India.

  2. Dr. Anant Bhagwat: He is the cousin of Shri Mohan Bhagwat, Sarsanchalak of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

  3. Pandit Satyendra Sharma: President of Shri Tripur Maan Bala Sundari Devi Mandir Seva Trust.
